I've had one of these machines for 30 years and it's still going strong and I do make pasta quite often. There is no doubt that home-made lasagna in particular is better than anything you can buy as you can roll the dough so thin that it becomes very fragile if it is left to dry for more than a an hour or so. I usually make it and cook within an hour. I find it's best to make a pretty pliable dough (1 egg to 70 to 80 g of pasta flour--no salt) that I kneed for about 8 to 10 mins, rest for 15 mins ... Rating: - The most fun I've had in the kitchen!
I bought this item with birthday money. I chose it due to the good reviews it had received on here. It is a great device - very well made and sturdy as reviews mentioned, which as a first time pasta maker I soon discovered was very important!
You do need a bit of an overhanging worktop to clamp the device securely to for the thorough hand cranking required.

After reading reviews, decided to choose this machine as many said that cheap often breaks. This machine is sturdy and up to the job of rolling pasta dough. I had no probs with the clamp, although I moved the machine to the other side of the table to make it easier to use lefthanded. I am a complete novice and found all the reviews useful. I bought this pasta machine at the recommendation of other reviews. Although I have never used another machine I have been warned off them due to them being flimsy and breaking easily. This machine is very sturdy and I would say to anyone looking to buy one - get this one. Friends have gone through cheap machine after machine and spent lots of money finding one that is up to the job. This one is built to last. It is double the price of the cheapest but it is worth every penny.
